    Marianne describes the fever suffered by her children Edward, Thomas, Jane, and Henry. She includes anecdotes of her daughter Sarah, who had maintained the school and cooked for the whole family while they had been unwell. In this letter Marianne also discusses the Northern War. She writes of Henry Williams visit inland to Hone Heke at his new Pa at Owaewae [Ohaeawai].

    The rumoured withdrawal of troops to Auckland until the summer, and Thomas Walkers assertion that if they were to move the troops inland the war could be finished without bloodshed. She reports that Te Ruki Kawiti had rallied [600] men for a move against troops who were responsible for the death of his son and people.
