Letter from Marianne Williams to Marianne Davies, November 3, 1846

documentary heritage
  • Description

Marianne expressed her excitement over receiving letters from her family at Tauranga. She shares with Marianne that they had embarked on renovating their house. Writing: "We finished a new supper room today and some new bed hangings last week. Now peace is made we have courage to furnish up the old house.

" She goes on to write that she was expecting twelve of the Williams clan in a few days, including the newlyweds Samuel and Mary Williams, Jane Williams and her children, and her son Joseph Williams, who had been staying with his aunt during the Northern War. She also writes of their Aunt Maria who had not yet responded to the invitation to join the family meeting. She then mentions that Edward and Jane planned to move to Waimate, and commented "we shall seem quite strange when the school moves." She writes of Sarah and Catherine being hard at work with their needles. In a second instalment dated Monday November 9th, Marianne goes on to write of the happy party they had with what turned out to be twenty four of the Williams clan.
