    Marianne begins by asking Kate to pass on to her brother, Thomas Williams, a list of traditional family names to choose from for their child and enquires after their labours of relocating from their Wellington house. She goes on to share with Kate the recent activities of her daily life, as well as news from their friends and family across New Zealand and in England.

    Marianne briefly writes of Jane Clarke who had been "ushered from her suffering and died very happily about a fortnight ago." She also writes of Charley Th[illegible] who broke his leg while Henry Williams was in Waimate causing a delay in his being able to set it. Miss Purchase, who was staying with Lydia while her husband was in England, is also mentioned. Marianne goes on to expresses her sympathy for Kates Aunt Maria, whose daughter Emily's fits had become progressively longer and more aggressive. Finally, she writes of her eldest daughter Marianne, who had gone to visit the Busby's at Waitangi with Kathleen for a change of air.
