Letter from Mary Williams to William Williams, March 12, 1822.

documentary heritage
  • Description

Writing in regard to the infrequency of their communications. Mrs Williams also writes of William's brother, Thomas Sydney Williams intention to settle in Van Diemen's Land, an idea which even his wife, Caroline Williams (nee Heath), hoped would prove futile.

She also passes on what little she knew of Mary Rebecca Williams, who was working as a Governess, and was possibly traveling to France or Italy with a lady and a little girl, and writes of Fanny Heathcote's steady recovery and the hope for her impending nuptials. Mrs Pigott's melancholy state is mentioned, and other friends are talked of such as the Fowlers, White's, and Marianne Heath who had died from an illness which Mrs Williams describes had not been well understood. Finally, she requests William to bring "Shuckford" (which was probably 'The Sacred and profane history of the world' by Samuel Shuckford) with him back to the city from Oxford.
