    Mary Williams begins her letter "Here I am in the best bedchamber surrounded by this dear family." She was staying with her daughter Lydia Williams and son-in-law Edward Gerrard Marsh.

    She shares with the Williams the recent activities of her daily life as well as news from their friends and family, and details of their domestic and private lives, in particular details of Lydia (her son John's daughter) and Caroline (from Hamburg) as well as the relationship between the Hodgkinson and Barlow families are given.
