    Red Army Book - 64 Soldier's Pay Book for use on Active Service, issued to Lieutenant Leonard John Armstrong, 19 May 1916. On the inside cover Armstrong has written "Please return to Lieut L. J. Armstrong, Machine Gun Squadron NZ Mtd Bde, Egypt". Alongside the Record of Cash Payments are 'Instructions to Soldiers', as well as details of Armstrong's Station, Company and Rank.

    The book includes a section for recording a soldier's Next-of-Kin, and a section recording Promotions, Appointments, Reductions, and any Casualty affecting the net Daily Rate of Pay.
