    Handwritten copy of a diary in English and Maori kept by Edward Meurant, interpreter, from 1 to 9 October 1846. Includes Meurant's account of a meeting with Hone Heke Pokai at Otuihu where Meurant delivered Heke letters from the Governor and Captain Graham. Meurant goes on to write of persuading, with the help of Kawiti, Heke to meet Tamati Waka Nene at Kaikohe.

    During this engagement many rangatira spoke, the addresses made by Hone Heke, Te Ruki Kawiti, Te Hau [Portia], and the Kainga a Mata are included by Meurant.
