George A. Preece - Book of Notes

documentary heritage
  • Description

Book of notes, mostly undated, taken by George A. Preece apparently during his resident magistracy at Opotiki, ca.1877. Notes begin with the minutes of a meeting at Opouriao regarding cattle belonging to Captain Gerusson that were taken by Te Makarini. Also included are notes from the meeting at Waiotahi regarding the sale and purchase of land; Preece noted the speeches of Reihana, Hukani, and Te Waru.

Following this is a section of 'Miscellaneous Notes', principally concerning Native schools of Te Kaha, Whakatane, and Galatea. The book of notes is bound with George A. Preece diary of 14 November 1873 to 4 April 1874.
