    Journal of Jane Elizabeth Williams, kept during her journey to Auckland, Rotorua, and Pakaraka. She recounts each place they visited along their overland pathway, and writes of her brother James who lead their party. Jane also writes often of her opportunities to bathe, and of the people who they met, such as their German friends to whom she gifted a fern and some whau seeds. She also writes of walking to Arthur Guyon Purchas' home in the absence of a train.

    Jane Elizabeth Williams (1827-1902) was the second daughter of William Williams and wife to Henry Williams Junior, the fourth son of Archdeacon Henry Williams. Together they had only one child, Jane Maria Williams, who sadly died at age five.
