"In organising this exhibition the Committee has relied on members of the Society and their friends for their support in lending pictures. The collection is not entirely representative of the work of former members and there are some gaps, but it is regarded as an exploratory show which should be of assistance in the planning of a centenary exhibition which we have no doubt will be planned for that occasion.

Although exhibitors were asked to show work painted before 1940 some have been unable to procure suitable work and have therefore been obliged to exhibit work painted after that time."
