    1 spiral bound scrapbook containing photographs and press clippings relating to Sir Edmund Hillary's expeditions in New Zealand, the Himalayas and Antarctica ca. 1954-1955.

    The scrapbook contains 44 black and white prints depicting Hillary, Harry Ayers, B.S. Gillies, and D.G. Herron on a climb of Mount Magellan in the Southern Alps, New Zealand. A signed photograph of the climbing party outside the Hermitage Hotel is titled "The 'Conquerers of the Last Virgin' of Mt Cook. Feb 1955".

    The scrapbook also features newspaper clippings relating to the Makalu expedition, Nepal; The Ascent of Mount Magellan, Tasman and the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition in Antarctica

    Also features newspaper clippings related to Sir Edmund Hillary's New Zealand Alpine Club lectures, and the film "The Conquest of Everest".
