Subject Notes
The work of the Church Missionary Society in New Zealand began with the first visit of Samuel Marsen in 1814, accompanied by three lay workers: William Hall, John King and Thomas Kendall.
The connection with New Zealand continued for nearly ninety years. A gradual withdrawal began in 1883 and the final transfer in 1903, when it was considered that the Church in New Zealand was able to bear the cost of the care of the Maori Christians.
