  • Provenance Details
Provenance: This item formed part of a larger collection that was originally in the possession of Mr Fenwick Barrett, of Ohaeawai, Bay of Islands, who had acquired it some years prior to its donation to the Auckland Institute and Museum in 1975 and 1985 respectively. He stated that the "Waitangi Hotel & Store", as it was formerly known, was run by a Mr Goffe [Louis Clifford Goffe] and stood where the Motor Camp at Waitangi Falls was currently located. Although being mostly comprised of account books, the collection also contained a visitors' book, which Barrett had loaned to the local museum at Russell but later gifted to the Auckland Museum Library in 1985. (Ref. Letters from Fenwick Barrett to Ian Thwaites, Librarian, Auckland Institute & Museum Library, dated 11 November 1974 and 27 February 1985 respectively. MUS-2003-81, Library Correspondence, "B" and "Chq", 1951 - 1986)
