    Contains photocopied material. Folder 1 -- Correspondence (unsorted), typescript drafts, photographs (including negatives), newsletters, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings relating to Kawau Island, Sir George Grey's mansion house and the preservation of both. Includes a letter from Lord Bledisloe to a Mr Reeves regarding Kawau, dated 23 September 1934.

    Folder 2 -- Two war diaries by John Norman Kirk, both dated 1942, plus several typescript draft copies, some annotated.

    Folder 3 -- Correspondence (unsorted) from John Kirk, dated 1941 - 1944; ephemera, including Kirk's notification to report for training in 1941; photocopied newspaper clippings and excerpts, including part of Kirk's wartime log book (undated); Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) material, including a copy of a speech Kirk gave at a funeral, and material relating to Kirk's training in Canada and his involvement with a Christmas Party put on for the Prince Albert Separate School students, which also contains a bundle of correspondence from the students.

    Folder 4 -- Newspaper clippings (unsorted), relating to RNZAF actions in the Pacific during the Second World War and to RNZAF veterans. Includes a copy of the Prince Albert Daily Herald, Saskatchewan, Canada, dated 17 November 1941, with images and a story regarding the Christmas Party put on by the RNZAF trainees for the students of the Prince Albert Separate School.

    Folder 5 -- Correspondence (unsorted) between John Norman Kirk and others, mostly regarding an award for the RNZAF crew who helped rescue survivors from a torpedoed American ship, as well as ephemera (unsorted), including Kirk's international driving permit, invitations to functions and a copy of RNZAFA News, Summer, 1996.

    Folder 6 -- Postcards and photographs (unsorted), some with notes, mostly relating to John Norman Kirk's wartime service, but also one of a Captain Sommerville with notes. [see also collection of photographs held in the Pictorial Collection]

    Outsized Item -- Scrapbook containing photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, maps and ephemera relating to John Norman Kirk's wartime service, including his RNZAF training in Canada. Includes a typescript outlining a brief history of the RNZAF flying boat squadron. Also included are newspaper clippings, typescripts and ephemera relating to Jenny Kirk's candidacy for the Birkenhead seat in Parliament and local government, 1986 - 1988 and 1995 - 1996.
