Provenance: Item was found amongst Mavitty's papers in the possession of the donor and forwarded to the Auckland War Memorial Museum for inclusion in its manuscripts collection.

William Ivan Lynn Mavitty (23335) served with 6 Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery, 2NZEF, in the Middle East during World War II. He died on 3 December 1941 of wounds received at Bel Hamed on 30 November, and was buried at the Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma, Libya.
