    Contains photocopied material. Item 1 -- Transcript of the diaries of 12/543 Sergeant Adrian Wilmot Delamore, Auckland Infantry Regiment, NZ1B, at Egypt, Lemnos and Gallipoli. The first half covers his first diary, from 22 January to 3 April 1915, and the second half of the transcript covers 8 April 1915 to 30 July 1915. (69 leaves)

    Part one -- Delamore records the sights and culture whilst serving in Egypt, including an entry on the riot in Cairo on Good Friday, 2 April 1915, which became known as the "Battle of the Wozzer".

    Part two -- Delamore describes travel on the Lutzow, disembarkation on the Isles of Greece and landing at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915. He describes the action and constant shell-fire at Gallipoli as well as food rations, censorship of his letters and the May armistice to bury the dead. He was promoted to Acting Sergeant on 13 May and stationed at Quinns's Post on 2 June, where he describes the closeness of the opposing trenches, bombing, the taking of Turkish prisoners, conditions and terrain. Delamore was evacuated sick with enteric fever in July, 1915. He was taken to 1 Australian Hospital at Lemnos and later to Malta. Diary entries at this period describe some experiences whilst in the hospital.

    Delamore attended Wanganui Collegiate School from 1903 to 1907, and then served in the New Zealand Army during World War I. In 1920 he formed a law firm in Malaya, which is still in existence as Shearn Delamore & Co.
