Item 5 -- Letter (plus envelope) from Albert Crum, Sydney, [Australia], to his wife, dated 8 [September] 1916. Includes programme for the Royal Comic Opera Company's performance of "The Dancing Mistress" at Her Majesty's Theatre, commencing 26 August 1916, Sydney.

Provenance: This material originally formed part of a larger collection of letters and photographs donated to the Queen Elizabeth II Army Memorial Museum, Waiouru, by Andrew Brook, of Yarralumla, Australia. The majority of the letters were written by 3/240 Private Frederick Albert Crum, New Zealand Medical Corps (NZMC), 1NZEF, to his family in New Zealand during the First World War. The letters by Private Crum were accessioned into the Army Museum's collection. Those that fell outside the scope of the Museum's collection policy were then forwarded to the Auckland Museum Library in February, 2008.
Public Access Text
Albert Crum worked as a brickmaker and building contractor, operating from Ashburton, Canterbury. In 1905 he moved to Auckland and established the NZ Brick Tile and Pottery Company at Avondale. This was later taken over by R.O. Clark Ltd. in 1924. In 1929 the four sons of Albert Crum formed a partnership and founded the Crum Brick Tile and Pottery Company.
