    Sir Gordon Minhinnick was born in England and came to New Zealand in his late teens. After studying architecture he joined the 'Free Lance' weekly newspaper in 1926 as resident cartoonist, and also worked for the 'Christchurch Sun' and 'Auckland Sun' before becoming the New Zealand Herald's resident cartoonist in 1930.
