Charles Costar - Diary, 1864 - 1865

documentary heritage
  • Description

Contains photocopied material. Day-to-day account of life aboard the ship 'Matoaka'. Costar's diary is a much fuller account of the voyage than that of Henry Ridgway's [see MS-1273]. Both diaries are in the same handwriting and internal evidence suggests that they were copied by Emma Banks. Also included is 'Extract from the NZ Herald' - a report of the voyage and subsequent fate of the 'Matoaka'.
