    The Le Gallais family collection of letters, papers, diaries, books, photographs, audio cassettes, medals and ephemera, collected by Mrs Mary L. Taylor, daughter of Charlotte Gardner (nee Le Gallais). The bulk of the collection relates to Charlotte and her period of service as a nurse aboard the Hospital Ship 'Maheno' in 1915.

    Other materials relate to the Le Gallais Family history, to Horatio Le Gallais (Charlotte's father), and to her two brothers, Leddra and Owen Le Gallais, who both served overseas during World War I.

    Horatio Nason Le Gallais (1840-1923) emigrated from Jersey in the Ida Zeigler in 1866 and settled at Clevedon where he was the Headmaster of Clevedon School.
    Charlotte Le Gallais (1881-1956) trained as a nurse at Auckland Hospital and served on the Hospital Ship Maheno in 1915. She married Charles F. Gardner in 1918.
    Leddra Le Gallais (1885-1915) served with the Auckland Infantry Battalion, 1NZEF, and was killed in action at Gallipoli.
    Owen Le Gallais (1889-1960) served with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, 1NZEF.
