  • Provenance Details
Provenance: On their arrival in Egypt aboard the troop transport SS 'Warrimoo', the Commanding Officer, Officers and Men of the 1st Contingent presented a scroll containing the signatures of all the members of the Contingent to the Commander of the transport, Captain Alec Mitford Edwin. The scroll came into the possession of the late Captain Pirimi Pererika Tahiwi, of Wellington, and was presented to the Museum by his wife, Mrs Mairatea Tahiwi, MBE, in his memory, on 28 August 1970.
The following appeared in the Auckland Institute & Museum Annual Report, 1970-71:
"Relatives of Mrs M. Tahiwi, of Wellington, and friends met in the Eastern War Relics Gallery on 28th August on the occasion of the presentation to the Museum by Mrs Tahiwi of a scroll bearing the names of all members of the First New Zealand Maori Contingent. The scroll, signed on the arrival in Egypt in 1915 of the troop transport Warrimoo, later came into the possession of Mrs Tahiwi's husband, whose name is on the scroll; a framed facsimile - also presented by Mrs Tahiwi - is on exhibition in the Gallery."
