    "Taurere is an area of Pakiri, it is a sacred specific place where our Tupuna of Ngāti Manuhiri once lived which is an old Pa site that overlooks the coastline of Pakiri Beach. It was a strategic vantage point where many battles and bloodshed took place. This is symbolised through the red used in the painting, the natural earth pigments used were collected from this specific site." Aroha Gossage
