Street-Action Aotearoa

documentary heritage
  • Description

Collection of black and white photographs by Peter Black depicting Bop, break dancing and street culture in 1980s Aotearoa. The photographs feature New Zealand Polynesian youth dancing on the streets of Auckland, Rotorua, Hamilton and Wellington as well as in their homes, high schools and in dance competitions.

Peter Black shot the photographs 'from the hip' on a 35mm camera with wide angle lens during the summer of 1984 and they were published as a photo essay in the publication Street Action Aotearoa alongside text by Mark Scott.
