Subject Notes
Mingma Norbu was a recipient of one of the first Himalayan Trust high school scholarships. He studied at Lincoln College in New Zealand. He was the first Sherpa Warden of the Sagamartha National Park in Khumbu and later, a leading member of WWF. He was tragically killed in September 2006 in a helicopter crash in the Kangchenjunga region (along with 23 other noted conservationists). In his memory, Lincoln University continues to provide 2 scholarships for Nepalese students. His death at the age of 50 was a huge loss to the Sherpa community and international conservation.
