    " The enclosed photos - some 70 - belonged to Matron Early. They were handed to the Auckland R.S.A. some years ago. Unfortunately in a management change many photos were lost. These were saved from destruction by Dorothy Gardiner, hence her name now stamped on the backs of many of the photos" Marjory Traill, President Returned Servicewomans Branch, Auckland R.S.A.

    Aotea Hospital N.Z. Convalescent Home, Heliopolis, Cairo. The Aotea Hospital funcioned from 1915-1919. It was run by Mary Amelia early. Matron Service No. 185. Awards A.R.R.C., M.I.D., Sister Kate Booth Service No. 184 M.I.D., Sister Norah L. Hughes, Service No. 160A; V.A.D.'s names not detailed.     Ethel M. Gould (nee Hirst) was a member of the Returned Servicewomans Branch of Auckland R.S.A. During World War 1 she served as a V.A.D. at Walton-on-Thames and Brockenhurst hospitals as well as the Kia Ora Club. In 1946 she was appointed to the Auckland Hospital Board and served 20 years. Before the Second World War she served as a voluntary worker with the Territorial Association at Auckland.She died in an Auckland rest home 2 February 1982 aged 87 years.
