Krzysztof Pfeiffer was born and educated in Poland, graduating in 1970 from Technical College with a Diploma in Photography. He served two years compulsory Army service (1970 -1972), assigned to the photographic unit. From 1972-1981, Krzysztof worked as Police Forensic photographer. In 1981 completed M.A. Photography from Uniwersytet Zielonog�rski.
Krzysztof moved to Vienna, Austria and worked for Kockum Landsverk (Volvo) 1981 -1982 as Advertising Photographer.
In 1982, Krzysztof was photographer at both the Taranaki Museum and the Govett Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth. He changed profession briefly in 1983 to Cost Controller for Newcan Engineering at Motunui. In 1984 he was Photographer at Auckland University, then Supervising Photographer in Charge at DSIR in 1988.
In 1992 Krzysztof was appointed to Auckland Museum, covering museum events, exhibitions, war commemorations and diplomatic visits. His work is used in exhibitions, publicity material and numerous book publications. One images from The Ko Tawa exhibition has become a symbol for Matariki. In 2004 he exhibited in Poland and later at the Auckland Museum. In 2008 Poland awarded him the Zygmunt Gloger medal for outstanding photography of Pacific culture and landscape.
