Subject Notes
Mrs Mickle (mother of ACDF Mickle) was an active supporter of servicemen during WW1. Her obituary notes that she sent gift parcels, initially to soldiers from Birkenhead whom she knew personally but later to a much wider group. She kept a souvenir album with photographs and letters from some of the recipients of her gifts, which included easy chairs and games for those in hospitals. Her work was acknowledged by NZ Minister of Defence J. D. Allen and Prime Minister W. F. Massey. She continued her good work during the influenza epidemic delivering baskets of food and parcels of clothing to those who needed help.
