PH-2016-4-2. Inscription on verso ""Thomas O'Neil's brother Uncle Bertie, 1st World War, Egypt" - uncertain identification as Bertram O'Neil served in South African War and died in 1902, possibly the photograph is of Bertram but was taken in a different location, or alternatively is of another one of Thomas O'Neil's brother.
Subject Notes
O'Neil (service no.: 13/113), born 28 August 1884, at Bombay, Auckland, attested on 17 August 1914, aged 29 years. He served initially as a Trooper with 3 Company, Auckland Mounted Rifles, and then with the NZ Provost Corps (with the rank of Corporal, and then later as Sergeant). He was wounded (GSW to the head) at Gallipoli on 8 August 1915 and discharged from hospital on 9 September 1919. Thomas O'Neil died on 21 May 1945, aged 61 years.
