Kirk, Trans. Proc. N.Z. Inst. 27:356 (1895). Original det.: Colobanthus muelleri T Kirk var. multicaulis T Kirk. Annotation on sheet: "Stems much branched. Flowers terminating short branches. Leaves with very short acicular points. Sepals equalling the capsule, without acicular tips." Annotation by B V Seddon, 16 Feb 2000: "These pieces could possibly be Colobanthus squarrosus subsp. drucei - which would put the locality in doubt".
