SYNTYPE of Melicytus micranthus var. longiusculus Cheeseman, Man. N.Z. Fl.:48 (1906). Original det.: "Melicytus micranthus Hook.f.". Det. on TFC label in unknown hand: "Melicytus micranthus Hk.f. var. longiusculus Cheesem.". Nom. rev. of Melicytus micranthus var. longiusculus Cheesem. Jul 2004.
"M. micranthus Hook.f. a curious form. A shrub 3ft-6ft high. Branchlets numerous, scattered, angled between the nodes, pubescent. Leaves distant, less coriaceous than in type, ½in long, orbicular-oblong, lobed, often contracted in the middle, sensuate. Female flowers longer, male smaller than in type. Berry globose, an eighth to ¼ inch diameter, whitish with purple dots, or purple. Plentiful in shady place on bank of Mauku creek." H. Carse July 1900.
