    Pure plant (cf. PdL 5534). Common on sand dunes and sandy soils, sympatric with K. aff. ericoides (K. "latifolia") which is locally present on the clay soils of the greywacke block of Te Arai itself. Bark tan, tessellated, sinuous, breaking in irregular strips. Capsules broadly turbinate/obconic, calyx lobes acute. This taxon is very common in sand country from Lake Spectacle north to Mangawhai where in the township there are extensive hybrid swarms.
