    New Zealand, North Island, Auckland Ecological Region, Awhitu Ecological District, Maioro, sw off Thomson road, Thornton's Gully, leading to Maioro Gap, remnant coastal bush near base of gully half way down

    Several whau trees occur in the more sheltered valley bottom near the main waterway. In flower and early seed. Also present - karaka, kawakawa, mahoe. Whau is being widely planted in the district. Original natural occurences noted here at Maioro, Kohekohe south of Lake Pokorua, Pollock (Meikles and Craigs - former specimen collected) and Jones at Tipitai. Not common. Good local population at Rutherfurds-Awhitu Central
