  • Field Collection Notes
Confined to the southern summit and south-eastern slopes of North Chanter (as well as the cliffs that form the south-western side of the island). Here ngaio grew mostly on the coral makatea forming a 1-1.8 m tall thicket over the razor-sharp coral. Ngaio is the only sizeable plant on the island and despite all the specimens seen being extremely badly damaged from the passage of Cyclone Bune (which hit the island on 28 March 2011) all specimens seen were resprouting and some were flowering and fruiting. At the time of my visit most shrubs were festooned in roosting Kermadec Petrels.
