Field Collection Notes
A large wooded wetland with a canopy dominated by grey willow. Very boggy underfoot and potentially a gumboot graveyard. Remnant areas of intact manuka mire on the outer edges probably indicate that the entire area once looked like this. Aside from the occasional pampas and Lotus pedunculatus and dense patches of Ludwigia palustris, the area contains the full array of manuka bog species including a mixed sub canopy of manuka and cabbage tree and abundant Coprosma tenuicaulis, occasional clumps of flax, Coprosma propinqua x C. robusta, several clumps of Astelia grandis and wheki. Other common species incluse Baumea tenax, Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, Blechnum NZ "swamp", Carex virgata, Baumea rubiginosa, Juncus prismatocarpus and abundant Hydrocotyle pterocarpa. Nertera scapanioides is extremely abundant forming an extensive and dense carpet in places, in fact it is hard to traverse the site without causing some damage
