Locally common amongst bryophytes partly growing through the thallus (Ptychomnion aciculare, Hypnum cupressiforme, Campylopus, liverwort), edge of kanuka canopy gap, sandy ground with Lobelia "Woodhill", Poa pusilla, bracken, Leptecophylla juniperina & Carex testacea; kanuka c.9m tall. Thallus grey above, white below with large black rhizoides, narrow fertile thalloid lobes erect
