    Cultivated on rock bank. Cormous herb forming a clump. Inflor. > leaves; rachis shining deep green or reddish-green. Bracts papery, becoming pale & translucent. Flowers slightly irregular; perianth 3-3.7 cm long, uniformly deep scarlet except for cream base & purplish band down centre of segments; latter 1-1.3 cm wide, elliptic-obovate & rounded apically. Styles pale pinkish, slightly > stamens, the latter asymmetrically arranged. Plants spreading a little.
