The vegetation is quite disturbed; not many large trees, lots of adventive species, and a large cleared space (lots of P. tenax here). Amongst gorse & pampas grass near edge of vertical cliffs where similar specimens seen growing on inaccessible ledges.
Large well-established P. tenax clumps very common all along the ridge and even under the scrub canopy, many in flower; didn't see a single plant of P. cookianum. P. tenax leaves to 10 cm broad, threadlike orange border, glaucous beneath. Sepals 42 mm, petals 46 mm, stamens 57 mm. Sepals reddish-orange externally with paler border, paler internally, acute tip. Petals paler, acuminate.
