
Auckland Museum′s Applied Arts and Design department acquires objects, carries out research and develops displays based on its collections.
The valuable and significant series of collections in this area offers the public an insightful look at past and present decorative arts from New Zealand and around the world.
Established in 1966, the Museum's applied arts and design collection includes ceramics, jewellery, furniture, glass, metalwork, costumes, textiles, costume accessories, musical instruments, horology (clocks and watches) and objets d′art from Western Europe (including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Scandinavia) the United States of America and Australia; from Asia, India and the Middle East, and New Zealand.
Staff currently include a curator and a shared human history technician.
