Worked in Chinese silver and standing on a base on Chinese hard wood.Woshing, Shanghai, China, 1912 silver marked hallmark ‘SHANGHAI [character] WOSHING’ engraved on bowl ‘SHANGHAI /Feb. 1912/ To Mr. and Mrs. Little/ In memory of the very many kindnesses received/ Tong Shoa-Yi/ First Premier of the Republic of China’ This silver presentation bowl was given as a token of appreciation from a Chinese leader to a New Zealander in recognition for his part in the abdication of the Emperor Pu Yi and the formation of the Republic of China in 1912.
