Description: wooden chair with Maori style carving, figure as upright either side of back, carved design around sides and front approximately 100 mm wide, front of seat supported by human form flanked by ngarara (manaia or reptile forms), carving on the base board has been strongly influenced by the storehouse Te Oha on display in the Maori Hall. Te Oha was acquired by Edith's father, Judge F D Fenton in 1885, following his death it was purchased for the museum by special subscription of the citizens of Auckland (1969).
