Tuluma
Description: Tuluma. Chest. This is a wooden tuluma with a lid. The lid has a sloped knob with a square centre, and a hole at the bottom in the centre of the knob. The overall shape of the lid is oval with some watermarks and scratches on the top. Underneath there is a 10mm edge with a 10mm lip to fit securely onto the chest. There are chisel marks evident. The tuluma is oval in shape with two handles. The handles are carved to protrude from the tuluma. There is a hole in the centre of each handle, with a broken string still inside the hole, with the knot on the underside of the handle. There is varnish on the outside of the tuluma, which is smooth to the touch. The inside of the tuluma is rough and the chisel marks are evident. There is a broken section on the lip, 140mm long. There are notches at the knots, and gouges and chips at the bottom under one of the handles. There are two cracks coming from the bottom of the chest are 50mm up one side. There are two cracks at the bottom of the tuluma, one is straight and is 100mm, the other is curved and is 190mm. There are four areas of possible wood rot.
