Cigarette case
Description: Cigarette case. This is a cigarette case completely woven from lau 'ie (pandanus leaf), it is rectangular in shape, light brown in colour, with a detachable lid that is also woven. Lau 'ie are cut from the tree, dried and scraped, and then split into whatever size strip is needed for weaving. Thin strips of lau 'ie are used and there are different lalaga (weaving techniques) applied, which are visible on the surface of the case. This case would have most likely been made for the tourist trade in Samoa.
