Description: Etching, printed in red ochre, from one plate; carborundum etching, printed in red ink, from one plate; drypoint and etching, printed in black ink, from one plate; stencil, printed in silver ink, from one stencil on paper. "In response to extensive reading on New Zealand service and Richard Flanagan’s Narrow Road to the Deep North, John Reynolds created a multi-layered etching. In the serif font favoured by the military, a haiku by Japanese poet Issa that is quoted by Flanagan, has been stenciled in silver. It floats over a rich ‘kimono fabric’ of camouflage and ottoman motifs, wound-like poppies and violent zigzagged gashes." - Australian War Memorial
