Henry Thomas Norton - Letters

documentary heritage
  • Description

Typed transcript of letter to 'Dear Lennie & Jean' [Harry's son Leonard Norton and daughter Jean Norton] from 'Daddy' [Harry Norton] dated 12 September 1916 from 'France' describing his role as an 'N.C.O' in France (1 leaf).

Extracts of the typed transcript from page 137 read as follows:

    Extract 1

    [Page 137]

"...We are right in the thick of it again. In the very heart of this Great War. You have read of the great results of the men from the land where Uncle Alfred is in. We are right there now, and will be for some weeks, I expect.

We are doing splendidly. The big gun fire is terrific & I have my ears plugged with wadding."

    Extract 2

    [Page 137]

"Well we have given Fritz a shake-up & got him moving for home. I could fill a cart with Souvenirs in a few minutes, but the best one I have, is off a German officer’s belt. A little steel horse shoe buckle. I got this myself & prize it, & will send it home."
