Henry Thomas Norton - Letters

documentary heritage
  • Description

Contains photocopied material. Typed transcript (photocopy) of a letter from Harry Norton, whilst aboard HMNZT No. 39 (S.S. 'Warrimoo'), to his son, dated 8 February 1916.

The following extract is taken from page 43:

"My old boy I am sure you are keeping your promise to me & looking after Mother ... It will make home so happy if you are bright & cheerful & speak nicely and behave like a gentleman.

You would be surprised how easy it is to pick out the gentlemen in our D Company. All the boys who have had good home training and have thought of the good & kind actions they can do for others, have grown up fine men and it is a pleasure to talk & work with them.

When I come back I want to find you a fine boy and be proud of you. You know you can fight for your King & Country by being a good boy. Just as much as I can in Egypt ... Your Soldier Daddy."
