  • Description

    Autograph album compiled by Miss L.S. Fitzpatrick while she nursed at the New Zealand General Hospital, Brockenhurst, from July, 1917 to June, 1918. Album contains verse, sketches, cartoons and autographs collected from New Zealand servicemen whilst they were patients at the hospital. It also includes autographs of hospital nursing staff (largely from Ward 20), one of whom was Margaret Swarbrick (see MS-1468), and two watercolour illustrations by M.E.

  • Provenance Details
    Provenance: A letter from the donor, dated 27 January 2003, states that the autograph album was found many years ago among some books purchased by the donor's late husband at the auction of the Sea Bank Hotel and its contents at Portrush, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
    The hotel was at one time owned by Miss L. Fitzpatrick and her sister. Miss Fitzpatrick was a former nurse at Brockenhurst before joining her sister in the hotel business. [Ref. ACQ-2003-8]

    Miss Fitzpatrick left the New Zealand General Hospital at Brockenhurst to join her sister in the hotel business. She and her sister were originally from County Cavan, Eire, but spent all their adult lives in Northern Ireland.
