"I'm Late. O. Petersen" inscribed on recto

    "O. Petersen" inscribed on verso

In 1954 Petersen submitted the photograph to the Photographic Society of America and the Waikato Photographic Society where he specified the following:

    Negative

Location: No Man's Land, Muriwai Beach, Nth. Auckland.

    Date and Time: January 1952 - 4:30-5pm.

    Lighting: Sunlight.

    Camera: Rolleiflex "Standard"

    Lens: Tessor

    Aperture: F11

    Exposure: 1/500 s

    Film: H.P.3 Ilford Pano.

    Size: 2 1/4 x 2 1/4.

Development: DK20 20° 14 min. Negative bit overexposed and dev.

Remarks: This photo was taken on "expedition" to a nesting colony of black backed gulls some 20 miles up Muriwai beach and about a mile in from the shore line in a vast area of sandhills.

    Print

    Process: Projection print

    Paper: Plastika (Ilford) Normal.

    Development: In O. formula.

Manipulation: Printing in of corners to overcome the flatness.

Remarks: Chased this chick in circles for "miles" to tire him to a fairly slow trot so I could work him into a suitable patch of sand with no toheroa shells (which the birds live on) and other distractions. Had the whole adult colony after me.

Inserted into the New Zealand - American Portfolios (The Photographic Society of America and The Waikato Photographic Society) 27th November 1954

[Keywords: Auckland Photographic Society (PSNZ), The Photographic Society of America, The Waikato Photographic Society]
