[Young women's cultural performance group]

documentary heritage
  • Description

Schoolgirls dressed in a uniform of white blouses and dark pleated skirts are standing in lines to sing and perform. Large bouquets of lilies are splayed on the ground in front of them while they raise one hand in wiri, a shaking of the wrist symbolising a quivering in the soul.

The same event as Sir Apirana Ngata and a Māori cultural performance group, see PH-2013-7-TC-B417-01

Likely from the 6 October 1943 hui presenting the Victoria Cross to the parents of Te-Moananui-a-Kiwa Ngarimu for Tebaga Gap, Tunisia, March 1943.
