AFHQ. Nov. 16th, 1944. German atrocity near Forli, Italy. Following story of German brutality was related by the Italian Liaison Officer of the 139th Brigade. - about Nov. 7th, 1944, a party of 12 Germans with an officer were shelled out of a house near Forli. They moved to a nearby farm where they demanded billets and then ordered the womenfolk at pistol-point, keeping with them 7 men of the famikly and 2 male friends.

      - Next day one of the women approached the house asked to see her husband. She was told by the German officer that he did not know where her husband was. British troops had cleared the area, and following morning one of the women returned to the house to draw water from the farmyard well and discovered to her horror that the well contained the bodies of the 9 missing men. They had been bound hand and foot and been shot. So far there is no evidence to point to the reason for this atrocity. Photos shows bodies of some men recovered from the well showing how their hands were bound. British Army Film Unit photo thru PWB.- Serviced by RX-All Points. - Approved by appropriate military authority. RX 3367
