Photographer Walter A. Chester was in business in 1897-1941 in Thames.
28/09/2020 - Man in centre top row was previously attributed as possibly David (verified by Syd Keepa) one of the three sons of Dave Heta Reweti Stewart. This man has now been identified by a member of the Doherty family as George Doherty.

Subject Notes
This house belonged to Edwin and Alice Taipari and is also seen in prints env13.13 and env5.5. The house was on Hill Street in the Kopu district south of Thames township but is no longer there.
The man on the far left front row is Edwin (Eruini) Hena Taipari who married Alice Stewart, Heta and Emere's eldest daughter in 1911.
Top row far right is John Francis, far right bottom row is Matthew. Top centre row is George Doherty, the brother of Winifred Doherty, married to Harry McDonnell (centre bottom row).
Center bottom row is Harry McDonnell, husband of Winnie Doherty and a close family friend.
Top row far left is Tauranga Matiu who was the next door neighbour of the Apanui/Stewart family and also a cousin further up the family line.
Winnie Doherty was the god mother of Noelene Hughes, daughter of John Francis Stewart.
Dave Heta Reweti Stewart was married to Emere Apanui Mair the daughter of Captain William Mair.
Dave Heta Reweti Stewart is not in this picture as he died in 1909 before the boys would have been this age.
